There are many great hiking and biking trails in the area, all travel through the scenic Manistee National Forest. Within 30 minutes of CoolWaters on the Pine River Campground are four of Michigans most beautiful hiking and biking trails.

The North Country Trail and The Manistee River Trail offer breathtaking vistas, small creeks and wet areas, and a waterfall. These two trails are connected by a suspended hiking bridge.

The Mckenzie Trail System is 15 minutes east, and the Big-M Trail system is about 25 minutes west. Both are still in the Manistee National Forest. The Big M Trail is home to the Lumberjack 100 Trail Race.

The Silver Creek Trail is a short, but enjoyable trail along the Scenic Pine River and is only 10 minutes away. 3 mile loop along the river (Hiking Only).

The Pine River is a Blue Ribbon Trout Stream with strains of native Brown Trout. It is a pristine and natural river, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing day of fishing.

The Pine River is a beautiful and challenging river. It has one of the fastest flows in all of Michigan and has some exciting small rapids. This makes it a challenging and exciting river to paddle.
